I have been busy

Well haven't I been busy let me tell you all for a start that if you are considering reborning a toddler be prepared to be up to your arms in hair for a long time. I have finished reborning my Nathalie Stoete and she is all dressed and cute. I bought shoes for her today and I am happy to report I did not take her leg with me to the shop, I guessed and after a lot of pushing and cursing they are on yay. I will post a picture of her here but it doesn't do her justice I am taking some more tomorrow and will post those
I have also done a Lucy by Marissa May, I made him as a boy and loved the way he turned out. He went as a gift for my niece when she is older, and sadly I did not take any pictures and now it is too late because we live far from each other :-( Never mind. On the upside I have been working on an Ember by Tasha Edenholm, I love his little squishy face and I painted hair on him. He will be getting rooted hair over the top and some eyelashes then he is off to ebay here are some pictures of him so far

anyway that is it from me for now will post again when I get some more pictures of my Nathalie until then take care

My Romie Strydom Janine

I have completed a Cora for a friend of mine since I posted last but I haven't taken any photos yet so I will post some when I have them. This is my latest baby Janine by Romie Strydom, I decided to try painted hair on her and I was really pleased with how it turned out, then I rooted over the top. I never understood why anyone did that but I do now I think it looks a lot better. I also gave her a textured finish which I will try to show as best I can in the photos so you can see what I mean. Janine was a custom order and has already been given to her new mum who was very pleased with her. I didn't make a lot of money on her and probably would have done better listing her on ebay but it was worth it to see how much her new mum loves her. I have my friend Angela coming over to my place tomorrow for a morning of painting I can't wait, she has never reborned before but hearing me go on and on about it she has now become hooked and has decided to give it a try. I started my toddler Adrie Stoetes Nathalie today, I was a little unsure of quite where to start and what colours to mix but I thought oh well I'll just jump in and have a go and I am happy with how she looks so far, I can't wait to have her all finished because she is one I am doing just for me. I got her kit as a birthday present and it is such a great feeling reborning a doll you know you are keeping. I bought her an outfit the other day (another bday present lucky me) it is so cute, not sure how I'll go with shoe size, I am thinking of taking her leg into the store but also wary of people thinking I am nuts. Sorry my posts are always a mish mash of different things but I don't post here as often as I'd like so it all tends to be blurted out at once.

Please meet Grace

Grace was the most recent baby I sold on ebay she will be going to her new mummy very soon, she is a Michelle kit by Evelina Wosnjuk, she is a very newborn looking sculpt so I gave her sparse hair and no lashes hope you like her

Please meet Sarah

I made this Sarah for my friend for her birthday and I just fell in love with her, it was hard for me to hand her over, she is such a sweet little sleeping baby and think I will definitely do another one some day. She is the Sarah asleep by Kim Van De Wetering. She is the fourth reborn I made, although in saying that I am not posting these babies in any particular order

This that and the other

I have been busy over the last few days putting the finishing touches on my Ashton Drake Maddison and am happy to say she is now finished, she is sitting wrapped up snuggle in my wardrobe waiting for my daughters birthday. I will get her down and take some pictures in the next few days and post them here. I have also finished the painting on my Ginger kit which I matched to a picture of my niece, although I think the kit in real life is not as close a match as I first thought but hopefully it will still look good when it has hair. I am giving this baby to my brother and my sister in law for my niece when she is older, I'm not sure if they have even heard of reborns before and I hope they don't just think she is creepy. I'm praying for hair in my mailbox everyday so I can get started on her and another baldy I am making for a good friend of mine, only it is coming from the US and I'm impatient lol. On a different note I ordered a toddler kit and she arrived in the mail the other day and woah is she big, that big ol head is going to take a long time to root. She is the Natalie sculpt by Adrie Stoete and is very cute. I am nervous about painting her because I am used to babies and their complexions and I have no idea what I'm doing but hopefully she will still turn out ok, I'm keeping her for myself. Unfortunately she might be waiting a while for paint because really must get started on my custom order, I ordered a Janine by Romie strydom, she has an adorable little face. Anyway that is enough rambling from me for this post, I'm off in search of some photos of my past babies which I will post very shortly,
Hugs, Andie

Hmmmm what a task

Well she is all painted and has a small amount of hair and what a task she has been so far. Ashton Drake vinyl is certainly not as paint friendly as the vinyl I'm used to. It took a lot of paint to make her look different and it didn't seem to suck the paint in as much as BB vinyl. No matter what I did she seemed shiny but I put some matt varnish on her and she is a lot better, still a tad more shiny than i would like though. She isn't ebay quality but she looks a lot better than she did before I am amazed that Ashton Drake can slap a little bit of blush paint onto skin colored vinyl without even painting the vinyl skin color and get away with charging people so much for it, and don't even get me started on the glued on hair, it is a discrace and if I knew then what I know now I most certainly would not have purchased her. The good news is my daughter has decided that she wants her for her birthday which is great because otherwise she most probably would have been put back in my wardrobe to gather more dust. I had to go over the veining so many times just to get the paint to stand out enough that they look a little disasterous but here she is. This is here all stripped and ready for painting

And here are a few shots of her painted and some of her with some hair, I still have a lot more hair to do. Plus these pictures make her look different than she actually does I find babies can tend to look red at certain times of the day and with different cameras but she isn't that red

Some of my babies so far

Ok so over the next few days I am going to start introducing you to some of my babies that I have done. Meet Coby he was a little terror right from the start and gave me no end of troubles. It took me a while to bond with this one but after uploading these pictures I think I can finally say I am happy with him. Coby was a Julie sculpt by Pat Moulton and is a limited edition of 500 kits, not my favourite sculpt but he is cute in his own way. When I get the time I am sending him to Ebay to find his new mummy, hope you enjoy his pictures.

Hugs Andie

Pictures as promised

Ok so here is what I have so far as promised some pictures of my Ashton Drake work in progress, since these pictures were done she has been soaking in a lovely bubble bath you would think that would put her in the mood to de glue but......no she is still as gluey as when she went in so I am going to attack her with the acetone again tonight.....I will not be beaten. When she is stripped back completely ready to paint I will post some more pics.

Oh for the love of reborning

Ok so I have decided to start a blog about my reborning after inspiration from others on the bountiful baby forum where I spend much of my time. Bear with me I am new at this. Well it seems i'm just not happy unless I have several things on the go at once. I just sold my Michelle by Evelina Wosnjuk on ebay and will be sad to see her go she was a very realistic easy to work with kit and a pleasure to reborn, I hope her new mummy loves her as much as I do. Well I have several things on the boil at the moment I have a baby waiting for me to list him and a baldie waiting on some hair from wonderful sugargliderus in the US. I have two custom orders waiting for me to start and decided in the late hours of tonight to pull my Ashton Drake Maddison out of my wardrobe and start the arduous task of stripping and redoing her. Well what a task it is that hair is stuck firmly on it is like when you take a sticker off something and it leaves behind that horrible residue, so one hour later I have put her in a sink full of soapy water and have decided to start this blog instead. I love everything there is about reborning even the time consuming task of rooting all that hair strand by strand because I love that sense of acomplishment once it is done and there is a gorgeous little baby that you know you have put your heart and soul into coming to life. I love the creativity involved and I am at my happiest when I am up to my arms in paint with doll parts spread from one corner to another, meanwhile my husband and kids are wondering if I have dissapeared into the big black hole of reborning with my husband finding less and less room for him in our room among all the babies lol I am lucky he is supportive. My daughter delights in telling people her mum is making babies in the kitchen which can lead to a very embarrassing mum and a lot of explaining to do. She has convinced me she just has to have her very own reborn for her birthday, she is turning seven I dread what she might subject this baby to. My son who is two has only just grasped the concept that they are not real. Anyway I have some pictures of my Ashton Drake Maddison just after I started stripping her and will post them when I get a chance to download them off the camera, so stay tuned
